Crossness has a fascinating story to tell our increasing numbers of visitors (in person and on-line) and needs some help to do so. We are looking for a volunteer Events Co-Ordinator to administer, co-ordinate, and implement events at the Crossness Pumping Station.  The role supports this charity to showcase the exhibits and provide community access to this important heritage site.

Crossness Mission Statement:

To restore, conserve or preserve, as appropriate, and maintain the Grade 1 and 2 Listed buildings, the engines, the site and collections of artefacts at Crossness, in order to interpret a unique part of London’s industrial heritage for the enjoyment, appreciation and education of a wide public.  Aiming to achieve Accredited Museum status, we will manage and conserve our collections and archives according to recognised standards. We will inspire an increasingly diverse range of visitors, volunteers and stakeholders, with clear interpretation, education and outreach through events and open days.  We aim to upgrade the exhibitions and displays to explore themes that are both relevant and accessible to a wide range of audiences so that Crossness becomes a popular and high-profile heritage attraction within the Thames Gateway region.

The Trust currently has a number of advertised roles, and may have more, because it is seeking not only to expand its “season” (currently mid-March to October) to almost all year round, but also beyond both its current days, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and into evening activities).

So that it does not overload its current volunteers, it needs to recruit more people to service this increase in its public-facing activities and their planning.  Part of this expansion also requires the recruitment of volunteers who can exercise some more supervisory functions as Team Leaders, and to supplement the existing skills of the Trustee Board.

What skills do I need?

This is a volunteer led organisation. We are looking for individuals for this role who have existing organisational events skills to start work on events as soon as possible. Good IT and interpersonal skills will help you.

A serious commitment to promoting Crossness to its public is important.
