As Digital Health Champions we believe that healthcare should be accessible to everyone! But with new hurdles such as healthcare services moving online, not being confident with these new tools, can exclude some people from using these services.

So, through this new volunteer role, we can work directly with residents to help them learn how to use digital tools, such as the NHS app and take back control of their own healthcare!

This is digital healthcare volunteering, helping to empower others by teaching them the digital skills they need.

We will train you  to become a Digital Health Champion, in a range of topics, so you don't need to be a tech genius to help in this role.

What skills do I need?

  • Provide One-to-One Support: Guide residents in navigating digital health tools, including downloading, setting up, and using the NHS app, and other tools such as getU Better App, Digital Health Passort, etc. (Training will be provided)

  • Build Digital Confidence: Help individuals who are anxious or unfamiliar with technology learn how to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and view medical records online.

  • Empower Self-Management: Teach residents how to securely manage their own healthcare data and take control of their medical needs.

  • Deliver Patient, Person-Centred Guidance: Break down complex digital concepts into simple, easy-to-understand steps based on each person's learning pace.

  • Promote Digital Inclusion: Act as a champion for accessible healthcare, ensuring no one in the community is left behind by the shift to online services.

  • Maintain Privacy and Security: Safeguard resident confidentiality by teaching them safe online practices while handling their personal devices.
