For Bexley and Dartford Samaritans
Bexley and Dartford Samaritans rely on money generated by the snack bar we run in the visits hall in a local prison. If you could spare three hours weekly or fortnightly, you could help keep our phone lines open.
There are 10 shifts a week, and once trained, you can choose which shifts to do (they don’t have to be the same each week).
The shifts are: - - Mornings – Tuesday to Saturday 8.30am to 11.30am - Afternoons – Tuesday to Sunday 1.30pm to 4.30pm (not Fridays) - There are no visits on Mondays.
You would be serving and taking payment for drinks, snacks, and sandwiches to prison visitors, prison officers, and legal advisors from a very busy kiosk counter (prisoners do not come up to the counter).
Full on-site training will be provided with an experienced volunteer, and expenses will be reimbursed.
A criminal record and other checks will be undertaken. Entry also requires photo ID (passport or driving licence) and fingerprinting. No electronic equipment is allowed (mobile phones, Fitbits, etc.). You must be over 18 yrs.
Free parking, or just 10 minutes’ walk from Plumstead Station and on bus routes 244, 380, 472, and 672.
You need to be comfortable with basic maths and be able to be on your feet for three hours.
