JOIN OUR DAILY CARE TEAM IN SE18!

The Greenwich Wildlife Network are looking for dedicated volunteers aged 18 and over to join our Daily Care Team, helping us care for injured and orphaned wildlife at our Wildlife Rehab Unit in SE18 during one four hour shift per week.

Location: Woolwich, SE18 (full address will be provided upon registration - we don't share this publicly for the safety of the animals)

What does the role involve?

Shifts last 4 hours, with occasional overruns in summer, and include tasks such as changing newspapers in cages, providing fresh food and water, administering supplements and medications, performing small first aid tasks, cleaning (sweeping, mopping, washing up, wiping down surfaces), providing fresh food and water, and following strict infection control protocols.

How flexible is it?

You can choose your volunteering day based on your availability, but we ask for a commitment of one four-hour shift per week.

Start times are between 9 am and 10:30am; agreed with the other volunteers on duty that day. Reliability is essential: volunteers are expected to take the role seriously and attend their shifts regularly, with any absences planned in advance whenever possible or only in emergencies.

Important Notes:

Minimal animal contact – To keep wildlife wild, this role is about care, not cuddles.

Health considerations – If you have lung sensitivity or are affected by bird dander, this may not be suitable.

Physical fitness – The role involves bending to clean lower cages.

- The Unit is accessible by public transport with several buses stopping just outside, and has ample parking.

What skills do I need?

Volunteer Requirements Commitment: One shift per week, ideally the same day each week. Seasonal differences: In winter, we mostly see pigeons, but other species are admitted throughout the year. If you’re uncomfortable with pigeons, foxes, or mice, this may not be the role for you.

We need reliable volunteers who can commit to their shifts regularly. If you're passionate about wildlife and willing to get stuck in, we’d love to have you on board. Full training is provided.
