Short-term volunteer opportunity – around 6 months

Flexible / home-based

Are you a strong writer with a good eye for detail?

Do you enjoy bringing people’s stories to life in a clear, engaging and sensitive way?

If so, this could be a fantastic opportunity to be part of a meaningful local project.

100 Faces of Bexley is a special project celebrating the borough’s unsung heroes — the individuals who make a real difference in their communities, often without recognition. Selected nominees will be photographed for a book, with each portrait accompanied by a short-written piece highlighting their contribution, achievements and impact.

We are looking for a Volunteer Editor to help shape and refine this written content so that each story is presented in a way that is accurate, lively, consistent and respectful.

What you will do

As Volunteer Editor, you will:

  • Review and edit short written profiles for inclusion in the book
  • Help ensure each piece captures the individual’s contribution and story in an engaging way
  • Check spelling, grammar, tone and consistency across the publication
  • Support the creation of content that is clear, warm and accessible to readers
  • Occasionally liaise with selected individuals if further clarification or detail is needed

Time commitment

  • Short-term role for approximately 6 months
  • Flexible volunteering that can be done from home
  • Tasks can generally be completed at times that suit you

Why get involved?

This is a chance to play an important part in celebrating the people who make Bexley special. Your contribution will help ensure their stories are told with care and impact. Profits from the sale of the book will also go towards supporting local charities, helping the project make an even wider difference.

What skills do I need?

  • Is able to undertake the tasks independently and manage their time well

This could be a great opportunity for a student, graduate, aspiring writer, editor or communications volunteer looking to gain experience while contributing to a positive local initiative.
