We believe that healthcare should be accessible to everyone! But with new hurdles such as healthcare moving online, not being confident with these new tools excludes some people from using this great service.
So, through this new volunteer role, we can work directly with members of our community to help them learn how to use the NHS app and take back control of their own healthcare!
This is digital healthcare volunteering, helping to empower others by teaching them the digital skills they need.
Registering
This role is available for current Digital Volunteers in Bexley, if you would like to become a volunteer, or you’re specifically interested in this digital healthcare role, then please Contact the digital team to get registered!
Training
First, you’ll need to register as a Digital Champion with Digital Unite. Contact the digital team directly to be set up if you’re not already registered.
On their training platform you’ll be able to access some really helpful courses on digital healthcare support, for a quick link to these, click here.
If you are new to Digital Unite then you should also complete the Digital Champion Essential courses, as these cover really important topics such as safeguarding and confidentiality.
Meeting
There is a quarterly meeting for Digital Champions to talk about the training, any hurdles and questions we might have. Every few months a poll will be sent out via email about the next meeting time and location. Please email the digital team if you think you haven’t been receiving these and you would like to.
Helpful Resources
Below are quick start guides to using the NHS app. These are designed based on earlier versions of the app, so some of the screens may look different in the app.
Supporting someone to use the NHS app
We have also designed a specific guide based on our experience gained through providing this support to learners over the last few months.
Click here to view this training document as a webpage (mobile friendly). Or here to access the pdf version.
This will change as new pieces of guidance are added, so make sure to check back here regularly!
PowerPoints for NHS app training sessions
Over the last year, we have created presentations to take patients through downloading and using the NHS app. These can be used at GP surgeries or at general community spaces.
