SHED AND GARDEN MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER

Men in Sheds Bexley is a community wood workshop and garden space for older men. This project helps reduce loneliness, offers peer support, and promotes skill-sharing. The volunteers' role is to support the maintenance of our Men in Sheds building and garden space alongside our other shed members. To help make improvements to each space and develop our storage. 

What skills do I need?

• General outdoor maintenance- mowing lawn, compost upkeep, ensuring our outside space is tidy and presentable • Assisting shed members with the development and upkeep of the garden space • Encourage active participation of members in gardening activities • Development of our storage and wood store to ensure efficient use of space • General building maintenance and handyperson for any ad hoc tasks

Knowledge, skills and abilities: • Good knowledge of DIY and gardening • Good knowledge of safe working practices in the use of tools, materials, and personal protective equipment • Able to communicate effectively with older and vulnerable people • An understanding of the effects of social isolation and their importance for healthy living in older people
