Brighter Futures Community Wellbeing & Mental Health Support Project

Make a Difference in Your Community

We are seeking passionate, reliable, and community-minded volunteers to support our National Lottery-funded Brighter Futures: Community Wellbeing and Mental Health Support Project.

This exciting initiative aims to improve wellbeing, reduce social isolation, increase access to support, and strengthen community connections across Bexley. Whether you are looking to gain practical experience, enhance your CV, develop professional skills, explore a future career in mental health or community work, or simply give back to your local community, we would love to hear from you.

Wellbeing Workshop Support Volunteer

Support the delivery of our free National Lottery-funded wellbeing workshops by helping to create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for participants. Volunteers will volunteer alongside workshop facilitators and contribute to improving wellbeing and reducing social isolation within the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome participants and help them feel comfortable and included.
  • Assist with workshop registration and attendance records.
  • Help set up and prepare workshop materials and resources.
  • Support facilitators during workshops and group activities.
  • Provide practical assistance where required.
  • Signpost participants to relevant local services and resources.
  • Collect participant feedback and evaluation forms.
  • Support the smooth running of workshops and community events.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and data protection procedures.

What skills do I need?

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. No previous experience is required, as training and support will be provided.

  • Mental health, wellbeing, counselling, psychology, social work, coaching, education, healthcare, or charity sector experience

Training

All volunteers will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support.

Induction Training

Training will include:

  • Introduction to the Brighter Futures project
  • Understanding our mission and services
  • Volunteer roles and responsibilities
  • Professional boundaries
  • Equality, diversity, and inclusion

Mental Health and Wellbeing Training Volunteers will learn about:

  • Wellbeing principles
  • Mental health awareness
  • Reducing stigma
  • Understanding local support pathways
  • Community wellbeing approaches
  • Safeguarding Training

Volunteers will receive guidance on:

  • Safeguarding adults and children
  • Recognising concerns
  • Reporting procedures
  • Maintaining safe practice

Practical Skills Training

  • Depending on the role, volunteers may also receive training in:
  • Community engagement techniques
  • Outreach and partnership development
  • Workshop support and facilitation
  • Communication skills
  • Signposting and referrals
  • Data protection and confidentiality
  • Monitoring and evaluation

Ongoing Support

Volunteers will benefit from:

  • DBS check required
    Some volunteer roles may be subject to a DBS check depending on the nature of the activities undertaken and the level of contact with vulnerable adults or children. The requirement for a DBS check will be discussed during recruitment. Where required, the cost of the DBS check will be covered by the organisation.

    Travel expenses/ refreshments when required up to £5 a day depending on the activity/role

Ongoing support will be provided through guidance, feedback, check-ins, and opportunities to discuss any concerns or development needs. Volunteers will also have access to relevant resources and training opportunities to help them grow their skills and make a positive contribution to the project. Health and Safety Policy We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all volunteers, staff, participants, and visitors. Volunteers are expected to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, follow organisational policies and procedures, and report any accidents, hazards, incidents, or concerns promptly. Appropriate information, guidance, and training will be provided to support safe working practices during all volunteering activities. We will take reasonable steps to identify and reduce risks and ensure that volunteering activities are carried out safely and responsibly.

    Training and Development: All volunteers will receive a comprehensive induction and ongoing training to support them in their role. Training may include Mental Health and Wellbeing Awareness, Safeguarding, Communication Skills, Community Engagement, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Health and Safety, and Workshop Support Skills. Volunteers will also have access to ongoing supervision, mentoring, and opportunities to develop valuable skills that enhance employability, confidence, and personal development.
