Role Overview:

The Toddler Story Time and Play Lead is responsible for delivering interactive story sessions and play activities for children under 5 years old. The role involves creating a fun and educational environment that encourages early literacy and fosters a love for reading and play among toddlers. You will collaborate closely with library staff to plan and lead engaging sessions that include stories, songs, rhymes, and physical activities like dance or play.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and Lead Sessions: Select age-appropriate books and activities, including stories, songs, and play, to engage children and encourage their participation.

• Create a Welcoming Atmosphere: Greet children and parents as they arrive, making them feel comfortable and excited to join the session.

• Engage Families: Actively involve parents or caregivers in the sessions to promote early childhood development and learning at home.

• Set Up and Clear Away: Help set up the space with relevant materials (books, toys, seating) and ensure it's clean and organised after the session.

• Promote the Library: Encourage families to borrow books and participate in other library programs.

What skills do I need?

Skills and Experience:

• Enthusiasm for volunteering with young children and fostering early literacy.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage a group of toddlers.

• Experience in storytelling, early childhood education, or a related field is desirable but not essential.

• Patience, creativity, and a passion for reading and play.
